On 11 January, the Government of the French Republic and Government of the Republic of Haiti signed an Establishment Agreement, which will allow Expertise France to scale up its action in this country where it has been operating for over ten years. This signing bears witness to the desire of both parties to further develop their cooperation, so that they can address the challenges facing the country together.

Expertise France is currently working with the central administrations and local authorities in the field of public finances, which includes a project to support Haiti’s General Tax Directorate, as well as in the field of the fight against pandemics, via the 5% Initiative, an indirect contribution by France to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The Establishment Agreement gives legal recognition to Expertise France and allows it to strengthen its base in a country where there has been strong growth in its activity since 2015. It allows the agency to strengthen its presence and action in Haiti, so that it can provide close support to the authorities in the field. The agency will shortly be opening an office in Port-au-Prince to host the team from the Urbayiti programme, signed in December 2017. This urban governance programme, financed by the European Union, aims to contribute to the economic and social development of Haiti and improve the quality of life in the cities of Port-au-Prince, Jérémie and Les Cayes.
