Expertise France in Senegal
Expertise France works with public administrations, civil society and the private sector, in the context of the objectives set by the Government of Senegal for 2013-2017 (Senegal Strategy for Economic and Social Development). Its action is closely geared to the external action of French and European cooperation in Senegal.
Expertise France gives priority to operations which contribute to reducing inequalities, improving access to sustainable public services, and strengthening Senegal’s resilience to environmental challenges.
In order to help Senegal develop renewable energies and address environmental and climate challenges, Expertise France contributes to the institutional strengthening of actors in the energy sector, via both bilateral and regional projects (SE4ALL, SUNREF). For example, the SUNREF Programme is supporting the economic interest group GIE Abdou DIOP, which is specialised in rice growing. The aim is to allow it to invest in renewable energy and thereby be competitive and increase its production. This support is provided thanks to financing from Société Générale de Banques in Senegal.
In response to the needs of Senegal’s population in terms of the fight against HIV/AIDS, Expertise France mobilises public expertise in order to support health and hygiene systems, under both North-South hospital partnerships and the 5% Initiative. It is assisting Senegal in the implementation of compulsory health insurance and health cover in the informal sector.
In the governance sector, Expertise France is supporting the implementation of Senegal’s public service reform and is mobilising expertise for the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Expertise France deploys some fifteen long-term experts in Senegal in the energy, governance, health and education sectors.
