Supporting the reform of the Greek public administration
Minister Voridis worked on a number of projects with Expertise France to modernise and improve Greece’s public administration. One of the most difficult tasks that they worked on together and vital for the entire working order of the public administration, was determining a classification for job descriptions. According to Minister Voridis, over the course of a 15-year period, thousands of job descriptions had been created, resulting in “a universe of complexity that made our lives very difficult.
” A new, coherent classification had to be made, which took several years. In 2022, “We finally arrived at a presidential decree for a new classification of job descriptions—a modern and practical tool for the hiring process. I was so impressed when I saw it, knowing how huge a task it had been. It was one of the best examples of constant cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, its employees, and Expertise France that worked smoothly.”
Another project that Minister Voridis highlights is a new framework for the public sector for teleworking. During the Covid-19 pandemic, because there was no framework, government offices closed, so a ministerial decree for a new framework was urgent. During working sessions “we discussed the challenges of teleworking for public administration employees such as who has priority, how to follow up on results, security, and how employees can keep a balance between work and their private lives.” A complete system for teleworking has since been put in place, says Minister Voridis.
