CAP Rugby - Africa Pacific Rugby Collective

The purpose of the Africa Pacific Rugby Collective (CAP Rugby) project is to make rugby a lever for sustainable development, social inclusion, and climate and environmental resilience in Africa and the Pacific.

Carried out in partnership with the French Rugby Federation (FFR), CAP Rugby brings together 16 national federations whose common goals are to improve their structure, develop their skills, and adopt cross-cutting approaches related to gender equality and the environment.

The project includes 16 national federations and spans 5 geographical areas: North Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific.

Some project activities will take the form of regional sessions, bringing together a host federation and several associated federations from neighbouring countries.

Closer cooperation will be initiated with the host federations of the Southern Africa and Pacific regions in order to support the implementation of activities.

A core aspect of the project is a training-of-trainers programme to enhance the skills of coaches, referees, leaders, and officials within partner federations. It will be led by the French Rugby Federation (FFR). Three complementary components make up this approach: structuring the federations, developing arbitration, and technical training.

The sessions will be organised in various host countries (Tunisia/Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, South Africa, and Fiji) and will mobilise several federations in their subregion each time. In Southern Africa and the Pacific, they will be carried out in close cooperation with local federations (the South African Rugby Union and the Fiji Rugby Union), in order to enhance regional expertise and boost partnership dynamics.

Post-training follow-up will also help consolidate the skills acquired and promote their practical application in the field.
