Expertise France, the French public agency for international technical cooperation, has released its activity report “Results and Outlook 2019-2020”. Here is the editorial by Jérémie Pellet, Chief Executive Officer of Expertise France.

2020 is an unusual year in many respects. It has firstly been a year that has seen the escalating Covid-19 health crisis, which has shocked the whole world and weakened many countries. Alongside Team France and Team Europe, back in the spring, Expertise France took action to help partner countries address the health, economic and social challenges they are facing. Thanks to our agility, our partners and our team of experts in the field, we have been able to adapt our working methods to the new constraints that the crisis has brought about for development actors. This has allowed us to contribute rapidly to maintaining basic health systems and mitigating the socioeconomic impacts of the pandemic.

We have been able to adapt our working methods to the new constraints that the crisis has brought about for development actors

2020 also marks our fifth anniversary. On 1 January 2015, six recognised operators pooled their expertise and know-how to create Expertise France, the French public agency for international technical cooperation. Since then, we have become a European operator that enjoys great confidence from its donors. Through its enhanced internal structure, Expertise France has lived up to the expectations placed in it, in keeping with the priority geographical and thematic areas of France’s external policy. We are today the interministerial operator for the State, a position that will be strengthened with the arrival of the teams from Justice Coopération Internationale (JCI) and our closer ties with Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

France will have a completely redesigned and clearer tool to build the capacities of our partners

Finally, 2020 is the last stretch before Expertise France joins AFD Group in 2021. Our teams and AFD’s teams have been preparing this integration since the closer ties were announced in February 2018. It will allow the Group to combine its financial services with technical assistance services that promote French expertise. AFD Group will thereby strengthen its capacity to offer integrated services tailored to the needs of our partners. France will have a completely redesigned and clearer tool to build the capacities of our partners to align all their public policies with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Our annual report presents the results of 2019, but also opens up our prospects for 2020 and 2021. You will find out about our missions, our sectors of operation and our activity. Enjoy your reading!
