Current demographic and climate change challenges require developing and strengthening agricultural sectors, by providing support to all stakeholders involved.

Through its projects, Expertise France makes it possible to enhance the competitiveness of value chains, and fosters structural changes at territorial level. The agency contributes to the development of resilient agricultural systems, with a crosscutting approach that includes the issues of employment, climate, livelihoods, health, water management, rural areas management and natural resources. Expertise France thus contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.

Promoting sustainable natural resources management

Sustainable management and protection of natural resources and ecosystems are major drivers for action in the fight against climate change.

Expertise France provides supports in the management of natural resources and ecosystems. The agency contributes to the protection of biodiversity, the sustainable management of forests and water resources.

Expertise France is aware of the fact that climate action requires a cross-cutting approach and focuses on integrating both agricultural development and sustainable natural resources management into its projects.

A few projects

Supporting the development of the agricultural private sector in Lebanon

Lebanon has a dynamic private sector that supports its economy. It is currently affected by an unstable regional context and major migration crisis. Private sector development is an integral part of the European Union’s development assistance strategy due to the impact it has on job creation, income generation and innovation.

The Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon has entrusted Expertise France with the implementation of the Private Sector Development Programme (PSD Programme).

This project aims to support microenterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises in the fruit sector in the Bekaa Valley and the timber processing sector in Tripoli, in particular via support for local productive systems which promote synergies between actors in the same sector.

EUROCLIMA+

EUROCLIMA+ is the European Union regional programme which supports 18 countries from Latin America in facing climate change by enhancing resilient and sustainable development.

The EUROCLIMA+ programme aims to build the capacities of actors in the fight against climate change in Latin America and identify innovative projects to achieve the objectives of the contributions to the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement (COP21). A further objective is to promote triangular cooperation with Europe and between Latin American countries.

Expertise France has been selected to manage the development and implementation of the “Forests, Biodiversity and Ecosystems” component of this programme, in partnership with GIZ (Germany). Nine projects have been selected in the call for projects organized within the framework of this component.

The agency also contributes to the implementation of the "Resilient Food Production" component, managed by GIZ.

Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework – EU Support

Expertise France was selected by the European Commission to assist it in the preparation of CoP15, to be held in Kunming in October 2020.

The post-2020 Strategic Plan for Biodiversity will be the new foundation for implementing not only the vision for 2050 but also the SDGs until 2030. The Kunming agreement must therefore be both very pragmatic for the present and the near future and very ambitious in terms of strategic scope in the medium and long term.

The present time is critical and timely to give a strong impetus to biodiversity, as was announced for climate in 2015 with the Paris Agreements.
