On 9 and 10 March 2020, the WAEMU Commission organised a workshop in Abidjan, in partnership with Expertise France and the World Customs Organization, with support from the Ivorian General Directorate of Customs.

The event benefited from a very high participation by representatives of WAEMU Member States, which were all represented, as well as by technical and financial partners, reflecting the common interest in improving the mobilisation of domestic resources.

This workshop follows on from the presentation made at the meeting of the Finance Ministers of the Franc Zone (RMZF) in October 2019 of the recommendations from the study on training for officials from tax and customs administrations financed by Agence Française de Développement and conducted by Expertise France.

Following this presentation, it was decided to share the findings of the study with all the stakeholders at this regional workshop in order to validate its observations and proposals.

The work carried out in Abidjan led to the adoption of an action plan by the representatives of WAEMU Member States. It concerns the management and organisation of vocational training and the modernisation of current initial and continuing training systems. This plan has a component for both the regional level and Member State institutions.

The action plan adopted by the participants, representing the training institutes, the Human Resources Departments of the Ministries of Finance and customs and tax administrations will be submitted for validation to the Ministers at the next RMZF.
